Window-watching

I love window-watching. To stare out at a world that is ever-changing, so full of birds, chipmunks, insects, dogs, and humans. I love watching them, imagining how I might chase and catch them,  or hide from them. But I cannot do either since I am separated from them by glass. They see me, I can tell, but they don’t act like it. It’s like I am invisible behind an invisible wall. I love it.  I can watch them in peace.

The thing I’ve noticed from also watching my writer is that she watching things, too. I think all writers do this. It’s more than “people-watching,” writers watch everything. It’s where they draw there inspiration from. They watch and, like me, imagine. Imagining what if something happened, and then the next what-if. For cats and writers, the “what-ifs” are endless and are what makes us keep watching and imagining. Continue reading
